I Just Found a New Personal Hero

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on July 5, 2008

Perseverance – noun : steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially. in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

Meet Adam Bender who is an eight year old baseball player. What makes Adam my new personal hero is that he plays perhaps the toughest positions on the field with only one leg. He had his left leg amputated when he was one due to cancer. Adam doesn’t use a prosthesis, and only uses crutches when he reaches base for the Astros.

I’m speechless, and for those who know me, know that truly speaks volumes. There are some people in this world, that I truly believe are put here for a purpose. This young man has and will continue to inspire those of us who think “it’s all about us” or “why me”. I commend this young man and his courage – and also his parents & family for encouragement, love and support. God Bless you Adam, and those like you who inspire people like me every day.

If this child is not enough to inspire most people, I don’t know what would…we need to watch this one everyday and stop complaining….myself very much included.

That is a video that truly makes me wonder….this kid has one leg and is unstoppable, his inspiration is on the heroic level.
And them I turn and look at my own children wondering if it would take me removing an appendage from their bodies to snap them into reality…They live on another planet (Lucifer’s Crib) where it is hot, steamy and damp with lots of black darkness. Cool thing though…if you give them something they want you get a brief glimpse of a blue eyed apple cheeked innocent. I would like to think my children have the strength to overcome the obstacles of this child. But I wonder….I wonder if I can sell them on Craigs List…I want one like Adam Bender!!!
