Maybe FSU Wants to Encourage Lying…Ever Think of that?
Posted by Thomas the Terrible on April 8, 2008

In a story that really should be getting a lot more press than it is a member of the FSU Sports Hall of Fame and a former quarterback who led the Seminoles to a 10-2 record and No. 3 ranking in 1989, Peter Tom Willis was fired from his analyst job for Florida State for telling the truth.

When the program slips to consecutive 7-6 seasons that means saying things people don’t want to hear. He was critical of the offense under former coordinator Jeff “I can’t coach like my brothers can” Bowden, and said that he probably “stepped over the line” when he said the Seminoles resembled a “high school offense” during the 2005 game at Clemson. I remember that game…Willis was going easy on them.
However, that was the comment that upset Coach Bobby “Free Shoes” Bowden the most, according to sources. After the great online test controversy one would think F$U would be a little more concern than announcers telling the truth.
‘They felt like I was too critical of the program and the team the last few years,” Willis said Friday. “I hate that. That was not my intent. My intent was to call it like I see it for 10 years.”
“But if people are upset with me because I was telling the truth, if that’s going to upset people, maybe I shouldn’t be there.”
FSU released a statement, saying the university thanks Willis for “the fine work he has done and for his dedication to Florida State athletics.” FSU is offering no further comment.

Homeboy can’t even put his shoe on right.
Willis, 41, lives in Valrico and works as an industrial buyer for Commercial Metals of Tampa. He said he would continue to support his alma mater even though they suck complete ass today.
“In a way I’m relieved because I don’t have to worry about damaging relationships, which was not my intention,” he said. “My intention was to get on the radio and tell people what I saw in a football game. I did it without compromising my integrity.”
Amen Peter.

I read about this yesterday – someone at Fox blogs wrote about it. Seems the truth will set you free in more ways than one.

That’s why Bill Anderson was, and will always be, the best color analyst on the radio.
Why? Because you could rarely understand what he was saying.
