Bruce Pearl is Victim of Rape

Posted by Thomas the Terrible on March 12, 2008

He was to drunk to coach at the beginning of year…

Congrats Coach Pearl you’ve been officially anally raped again. Instead of taking home the SEC basketball coach of year outright he has to share this with Billy “I lost to Gardner Webb, Houston, UAB & San Diego while embarrassing the SEC” Gillispie.

You might recall that in Pearls’ first year as the head coach of Tennessee he then had to share the SEC coach of the year award with John Brady who was the LSU coach at the time. Brady has been fired since then; let’s hope to keep that trend going.

It shows how well you are doing when there is so much envy among your peers that they try to knock you down by pretending you are not good. As I recall, one of the KY players did not begin playing until later in the year and then the team began to play better, thus the reason for the improvement was the return of the player instead of the coaching.

Essentially, they’re rewarding Gillispie because of the coaching he did to overcome such a poor start. A start, by the way, that could be attributable to poor coaching at the beginning of the year. Does he get co-honors as best and worst coach of the year also?

To me there are a number of reasons Gillispie shouldn’t even be considered for COY:

  • Pearl coached at team that had the #1 RPI and a top 2 SOS. UK wasn’t even close in RPI or SOS.
  • UT went undefeated at home this season. UK lost multiple games at home with major losses to unranked S. Diego and Gardner Webb.
  • Coaching a team that gets beat by 40 pts should never be considered for coach of the year in any conference.
  • Pearl takes his team to its first outright title since the 60′s and has beaten the #1 team in the nation AND was ranked #1 in the nation.
  • Ashley Judd is a whore
See?

If you put the bodies of work next to each other, it isn’t even close. 2 rivalry losses in conference both on the road and a loss to Texas speak volumes. This shouldn’t even be a discussion.

I think it is evident that there is a measuring stick of inconsistency. I find it hard to believe that any team (not just because it is UT) goes 28-3 and loses only to the then #5 team in the nation (Texas), a then #16 ranked Vandy and a rival UK isn’t viewed as head and shoulders over a team that is 18-12 with a number of pitiful losses.

When you make a decision, you do so based on a standard. UT has been ranked in the top 10 almost all season (if not all season). When you compare that with a team that lost to the teams Kentucky lost to it isn’t even a contest.

I won’t scream conspiracy, but if you put the two resumes side by side it is a no brainer. Chalk it up and move on, but you tell me…who would you rather have coaching your basketball team?

It’s the conspiracy against Pearl dating back to the recruiting issues he made public nearly 20 years ago. Watch HBO’s Real Sports the next time it airs, if you didn’t see it Monday evening. They’re expose on Pearl gives you better insight into this.

And ho or otherwise, I’d still do Ashley.

What a foolish post. Let me tell you something about TN. They may have won some games, but they are the easiest team UK has played to take out of their game. Oh yea, the pitiful UK team you speak of beat your volunteers at Rupp and damn near beat them at Thompson Bowling. TN wont even win the SEC tourney and theyll be an early flameout in the dance. Pearl is a great preparation coach and I like him alot, but he was totally outcoached both matches against UK this year. He is not an x’s and o’s man like Gillespie. And you think people hate Pearl now, wait another 2 years and see how much the SEC will revile Gillespie.

Gillespie is one of the best tactical minds in the game right now and this UK team is one of the mentally toughest and hardest playing teams Ive ever seen at UK. They may not have talent, but they have balls and I’ll take that over the earrings and bling the TN boys like to wear. I really, really hope for another UK/TN matchup, because TN cant beat us on a neutral court.

UK will win the SEC tourney, mark my words.

And UT fans wonder why they are considered classless…. ha ha ha. What a post! You have no inteligince whatsoever. Truly sad…

I think everyone can agree that UT has had a better season, but the award is for COACH of the year, not TEAM of the year.

Billy Gillispie’s turn around in a season of turmoil, new offensive and defensive systems, reluctant players, and injuries has been nothing short of amazing. Don’t forget that this award is voted by the coaches. The coaches in the SEC recognize Gillispie’s phenomenal effort.

Are you serious? Apparently you do not follow basketball that closely. UK did begin to play slightly better after the return of Jasper, but the team still had not sold out to Gillispie’s style and struggled. Gillispie took a team that its star players missed a combined 37 games and went 12-4 in the SEC compared to what UK had done the last 2 years going 9-7. We also without one of the top players in the leage Patrick Patterson took the Vols and your beloved Bruce Pearl to the wire in Knoxville, after we had already beaten the Vols in RUPP, not to mention beating SC and UF without PP. I believe if anyone was raped it was Billy Clyde, he overcame injuries, taking over a new team and came within a missed 3 of beating Pearl and the Vols at home, Bruce Pearl did what he was supposed to do win in the SEC with one of the most talented teams in the country. That is called doing your job, the 12 year old that put in for the West Virginia head football coach opening could have coached the Vols to a 28-3 record.

I would have to disagree with you Thomas. I think the voting was based on league play more than overall record. Pearl did a great job this year, but considering Gillispie turned chicken salad out of chicken s**t, I would have voted for him too. Outside of Patrick Patterson, you couldn’t name 3 more players on that team. Even after he went down with injury, Kentucky still rolled. So yeah, either him or Rick Stansbury from Rick Stansbury would have received my vote…

Doesn’t matter anyway, Kentucky will be out of the 1st round of the NCAA’s anyway…

The voting for the coach of the year should be based on the whole year. if not the rules should be adjusted. Pearl by far was the Coach of the year.
Maybe his terrible orange coat cost him some votes!

  8. Kentucky also got rolled by Gardner Webb, Houston, UAB & San Diego all at home. You think those loses helped the “SEC is down” argument? It might be what perpetrated them.

I saw the Real Sports piece it was awesome.

  9. And UT fans wonder why they are considered classless…. ha ha ha. What a post! You have no inteligince whatsoever. Truly sad…

Hey moron it’s spelled “intelligence” that’s truly sad…douche bag

  10. “The coaches in the SEC recognize Gillispie’s phenomenal effort.”

Did they see his horrible coaching against schools they should have won?

  11. “That is called doing your job, the 12 year old that put in for the West Virginia head football coach opening could have coached the Vols to a 28-3 record.”

I bet that same 12 year old wouldn’t have lost to Gardner Webb either…nice SOS there…

  12. Vandy thinks UK is a bunch of pussies.

  13. Gardner Webb said

    We agree with Vandy

The early UK losses were due to the team not doing it Gillespie’s way. Bradley and Crawford didnt even start in nonconference and often sat on the bench. We didnt have a consistent team on the floor. So yeah, they were bad losses and we all thought the worst of the season. But once Bradford bought into Gillespie’s system, both of them have reached levels they had never reached in the past. Both of them are playing better than they ever have and both credit Gillespie for bringing them to that level.

If anyone has a chance to do some damage in the SEC tourney, its UK. Bring on Memphis, we’ll slow the game down and make them miserable.

Would someone please put some milk in the FailCat’s collective saucer dish???

  16. Joel said

@14 Memphis’ half court offense is dependent on one-on-one scenarios. They want to beat their man off the dribble in hopes of collapsing the opponent’s defense, opening up back door cuts, alley oops, 3 point shots, etc. Slowing down the game won’t stop them. Only either another up tempo team that can run with them (Tennessee), a great inside game (Kansas), a defensive juggernaut (UCLA) or a team that can do all of those (UNC) can stop the Tigers…

  17. Sam the only problem I have with KY loosing to teams like Gardner Webb let’s be honest KY’s second team has tons more talent than the Gardner Webb starting five. On talent alone KY should have won.

Now some KY sports writer was on the local call in show here in SC and he said KY is still playing “Tubby Ball” I’m not that sure about that. What’s your take on it and if the styles are that similar then it shouldn’t be an issue of buying into the system, but like i said I disagree with the writers assessment.

Billy-haters… keep this in mind. UK’s coach voted for Bruce Pearl. If he had followed your beloved Bruce Pearl’s lead and voted for Rick Stansbury, Billy would have won COY outright. Bruce only got to share the award because Billy voted for him. So when you’re putting him down, remember that he was the one that showed your coach respect and allowed him to share the spotlight. You should be directing your hatred to the other coaches, not Billy Gillespie, who did you a favor. Your jealosy makes you want to believe that UK and Billy robbed you, but it was the other coaches that hate Bruce and TN… probably because TN fans are such idits!

  20. zigzag said

@2 “Tennessee can’t beat UK on a neutral court”? UK can’t beat Ole Miss on a neutral court. “UK will win the SEC tourney”? The only way that will happen is if they are the beneficiary of three consecutive forfeits.

  21. “So when you’re putting him down, remember that he was the one that showed your coach respect and allowed him to share the spotlight.”

Like he had a choice? What was he going to do direct all the media not to cover the story. That’s an moronic comment to make. He didn’t “allow” anything because he didn’t have a choice.

“Your jealosy makes you want to believe that UK and Billy robbed you, but it was the other coaches that hate Bruce and TN… probably because TN fans are such idits!”

Wow you misspelled the word jealousy and idiots. You are really one to comment. We might be idiots but apparently you seem to be about 12 IQ points below an idiot.

  22. SAM said

yes, KY can beat TN on a neutral court, zigzag. They nearly beat them at TB arena. Ole miss lost to Ga, if we beat GA, we’ll beat Miss St and see you in the finals. Count on it.

UK’s talent wasnt the problem with Gardner Webb and San Diego, it was players not buying the coach’s system, not responding well physically to 2 hour game day practices and not having any legs in the early season. How else do you explain 4 guys playing 39-40 mins a game, every game for UK?

Tubby is not even in the same league as Gillespie. I loved Tubby. It took me a while to see that, but look no further than the performances of Crawford, Bradley and Stevenson as evidence. He took 3 of Tubbys players and made them an order of magnitude better than Tubby did in 3 years. Also, this UK team plays tougher, harder and smarter than any UK team Ive ever seen. We just dont have any depth right now and very little real talent. But we are hard as a rock physically, very fit, and will not lose easily.

This is going to be a tough team to beat, even as untalented as we are this year. Wait two more years.

GO VOLS! Pearl > everyone, and he also probably has or will do your mother. so stfu, TN basketball used to be awful, and now it one of the top teams in the country, thanks to Bruce Pearl. The players are that good, because Pearl coached them that good.
