Dear Marion Jones,

This letter is from a fan and blogger, just like I am sure other people are sending you letters and typing up editorials about your confirmed steroid use. You know, screw it, I am a former fan, scratch off the fan thing from earlier.

In the Holy Bible, Romans teaches us “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. The thing about you in particular is that you are a public figure. You had it all, and the following words were commonly attributed to you: beauty, grace, speed, and power. I have been a fan of Track & Field for a long time, and I remember seeing you on ESPN2 back in the 90′s. I won’t forget how you went to the University of North Carolina to run track and play basketball. I can remember watching you at a track meet in Raleigh in 1999 absolutely destroy the competition in the long jump and the 100 meters. You were running faster 100 meter times than a lot of athletes, male or female. You didn’t need to cheat, and your sins are magnified because you are a public figure…

You did steroids and HGH. Why??? You were already great. Was it the company that you surrounded yourself with??? Your first husband, C.J. Hunter, was a cheat. You left him, after he hooked you up with BALCO, and then you laid up with Tim Montgomery, a bigger cheat than Hunter because not only was he shooting up steroids from BALCO, but also he was laundering money. Is there no honor among thieves???

As soon as the feds got involved, you lied, which is probably the dumbest thing that you can do. Barry Bonds is about to find this out. Lets face it, the government took down Al Capone and Willie Nelson. They have toppled “hostile” regimes in other countries and ran roughshod over whole armies. Did you honestly think that our U.S. government would not catch YOU??? Why, because you were one of these “American Sweethearts” like Mary Lou Retton or Kerri Strug???

So now, you have been sentenced to 6 months in jail for your indiscretions. You must report no later than March 11. You begged the judge to be lenient and only get off with probation. He gave you 6 months PLUS probation and community service. If I were the judge, you would have received a lot more than that. You are no worse than Bonds, Canseco, Clemens, your ex hubby or ex lover. You are a cheater just like the rest of them. You had it all, and now you are bankrupt, both financially and morally. You were getting $1 million appearance fees, and now you are scheduled for an appearance in cell block E, with the fee being your own stupidity. I am taught to forgive, but I, just like a lot of your biggest fans, can and will not forget. I do feel sympathy for your kids, as one day you will have to face them and explain why you cheated and lied about it. I just hope that they, just like millions around the world, can learn from your mistakes and not repeat them.

Until then, report to jail early, do your time, get out, and “Go out gently into that good night,” because I don’t want to see or hear anything from you for a long time…

    Marion,
Forget all of what he said, you know you messed up and thats what matters. We all make mistakes, you don’t deserve to be treated like this. Ignore what people are saying, you’re better than this. I don’t know if you will ever read this but its coming from a true fan. We all make mistakes and bad decisions, you ARE better than this.

    I agree with Allanah..
I was a fan of Marion Jones for as long as I could remember. I’m a bit disappointed about what happened but i still admire Marion Jones, especially for admitting her mistakes. Many athletes take drugs but they won’t confess. She was able to stand in front of the public and tell the truth. She’s going through so much because of those few mistakes, which could’ve been because of pressure, stress or such. But, nonetheless it was a MISTAKE. And I’m pretty sure we ALL make mistakes. But the important part is learning from it and taking responsibility, which Jones has clearly done. Again, I admire her for that. Not only that, but also that fact that she wants others to learn from her mistakes as she said after she received 6 months in jail “I truly hope that people will learn from my mistakes”. We could only imagine the pain that she’s going through. She has given up track and field which is a HUGE part of her life. Just so you know, giving up those medals is not easy at all, nor telling your children and telling the public that you let down your country. But, I hope that she knows that there are people that forgives her and supports her. And I am one of those people. I still respect her.

She said on Oprah that she did not knowingly do steroids, despite evidence to the contrary. Yeah she is really taking responsibility…clearly. Didn’t she go to jail for lying???

What is worse is that in that same interview, she said she didn’t even need to take the steroids. She was too insecure in her own natural ability (which was way better than anyone else) to no take the clear & the cream.

So no I do not admire her for halfway admitting her mistakes because they could have been avoided. And whatever treatment she gets from the left wing nutjob liberal media is deserved…

  4. ok, i understand all of what is being said and i think it is rediculous that people would quote scriptures from the bible and then say all these things on here about her when God says to forgive… people are so selfish, and what everyone doesnt understand is that there is so much pressure in every sport and ofcourse when your that good then you feel like everyone wants SOOOOO MUCH more from you all the time… i am still a very big fan of marion jones and instead of gettin mad when i read my book about her it jus makes me sad because no one understands what all she has had to go thrugh and what she is still gonna have to go thrugh!! people forget about what all good she has done and how much she has made other young athletes want to get to where she was able to and that is still a very big deal to me and a lot of other young people and it did help in ways because every athlete almost thinks about doing things to make them better and because of marion they know the effects and hopfully it will make a difference in just how far they are willing to go… so thank you marion and i will always be on you side…

and remember EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES EXCEPT FOR GOD SO UNLESS YOUR HIM BACK OFF… YOU HAVE NO PLACE TO BE JUDGING ANYONE, THERE IS ONLY ONE DAY WHEN EVERYONE SHOULD BE JUDGED AND WE ALL KNOW WHEN THAT IS….

  5. Yeah Joel don’t use the Bible…however you still get an A+ so using the word “you’re” correctly and I’m sure you can spell “ridiculous” properly as well so that’s two A+’s.
